Photographers in the Parish

by SLHS on Monday 3 October 2016

Although photography became fairly widespread toward the end of the 19th century there would probably have been little business for anyone in Somercotes at that time. Although a couple of photographers are mentioned prior to 1900, portrait studios were also available in the towns of Alfreton and Ripley.

As the population of the village and surrounding areas grew, opening a photography business became more viable, and several started to appear over the years.
