The Somercotes Health & Strength Club was formed on the 25th March 1927, at the Rifle Volunteer, Birchwood Lane and was know as the Somercotes Weight Lifting Club.. The foundr members were S. Gibson, D. Barnett, J. Wilson, F. Earnshaw, S. Smith & C. Smith. The club later moved to the back of Mson's Chip Shop on Nottingham Road and became known as Somercotes Physical Culture Club.
The 50th Year Presentation Evening was organised by Ernest Steele.
The club finally folded when it was uanble to secure premises.
