The Royal Tiger is mentioned in the Whites Directory of 1857 when George Rhodes was the inn-keeper and is the first inn in the hamlet of Somercotes. It is believed that this may not be the original building and that it stood further back originally. Earlier maps show the pub further back with steps leading up to it.
